sorry for the terrible photos. full-length self portraiture: not a skill i’ve mastered.

the questions i’m asking myself:

  1. does it feel bridal?
  2. will i be thrilled or embarassed when i see it in 10 years? 25?
  3. are the folds in the front too weird? what about how the overlay panels meet in the rear?
  4. does it jibe with the venue?
  5. do i like it better than the cheaper white gown i already have? (ans: i think so.)
  6. will my grandma give me a hard time about it? (ans: maybe.)
  7. will daveed like it? (ans: probably! he once made a remark about white gowns being boring, so i don’t think he’s be disappointed.)

the things i’m thinking:

  1. it made me really happy to put it on.
  2. blue is a great color on me. (the first wedding gown i loved was a powder blue reem acra, actually.)
  3. a white veil actually looks pretty awesome with it. in fact, i love my veils with this gown. i don’t really love them with the other one.
  4. it’s flattering.
  5. it’s really well made. i don’t feel like i need to handle it as delicately as i do the white gown.
  6. her sizing be CRAZAY. i’m a dress size 2, bought a size 8, and it’s only slightly too large. works for me, though.
  7. it would be kind of a relief to not worry about staining it all night. that’s precisely why i’ve never owned a pair of white pants.
  8. i should try on similar silhouettes in white/ivory/a light color, just to be sure. i love the idea of incorporating color, but i was initially thinking a pastel/powder shade, not something that says “O HAI! I’M NOT WEARING WHITE!”
  9. oh christ, i now have a deadline to decide. 60 days. nail. bite. ing.

thoughts, please! would love your feedback.

Well hello you hottie! The main question is do you feel like a bride?

I just love the idea of a coloured gown. I just think that my wedding is the one day I get to wear a white gown and I don’t really mind getting it dirty. Whatever I wear will get dirty!

Also explain to Grandma the only reason we wear white is because of queen victoria and does she really want to potentiate a British tradition!

      well, shucks! hi. :)

you know, i kind of do feel like a bride. it’s the most special-feeling gown i’ve tried on so far, if that makes sense. and that’s really what i’m aiming for, something that feels like a treat to put on.

will try on some white gowns this weekend, then see how i feel!

thanks so much for the feedback. i’ll be sure to school my grandma. :)

Yes I think you should definitely wear the blue one!! It looks amazing on you. It looks right!

After seeing you in that dress Im starting to think if I should consider blue… I have also let questions like “does it jibe with venue?” and “the look at me Im not wearing white” thing put me off, but seeing you in that dress is converting me… I have felt quite bored with the white dresses I have tried on so far…

I think if you felt happier in that dress than the white one then it is def the one for you!

i really relate to that. for me, i think that having a long engagement and looking at too much wedding porn has maybe given me white dress burnout. either that, or i haven’t found the right white dress yet. we’ll see!

i’d love to see what you come up with, if you go for color. keep us all posted!

It’s a flattering shape and shade.

    You look regal.

Grandma will like that even if she doesn’t like that you are wearing a jewel tone dress.

I almost thought about your venue, but the Mr. was only having very air-conditioned climates for the reception.
I personally never paid attention to this. You can wear whatever you want.

Definitely try on other dresses to be sure. I still get dress anxieties. I don’t believe in the perfect dress or rather I don’t think I can afford it.

If you feel great, look great, it’s the material you wanted (this was my hesitation), then that’s it.

      thank you!

i’m less concerned about what my grandmother thinks than i am with taking as little crap about the wedding as possible. she’s 80 and feisty. i think that’s where that comes from.

thank you for the advice… i think those are excellent points.

which venue did you guys settle on?

I think you look wonderful! My sister wore a blue gown and she has not regretted it not even once. If you are feeling it, go with it….if not, try a few more on just to be sure!

thank you! i would LOVE to see photos of your sister’s gown… i haven’t seen many photos of brides in blue gowns, and now i’m particularly interested in it. :)

it’s so flattering, and looks way designer.

to me… feeling “like a bride” or “bridal” is all about, “will i feel like the prettiest girl in the room?” and you, m’dear, look lovely!

and as far as looking back in regret, at the very worst, you’ll look back and shake your head and smile, “ah, i was so avant-garde.”

As usual, Liz provides a far more eloquent comment. Can i pretend that is what i wanted to say!

you ladies are the best. seriously. thank you for all of your thoughtful comments — i am so flattered, and i have a TON of great food for thought as i work this through.

and liz, i think you’re right. i’m not sure what i’ll like in the future. i might as well make sure that i really, really like it now.

Holy crap! “Kind of” fabulous? Honey, that gown is full on fabulous! I might even go so far as glorious! I think it looks stunning on you.

I am gonna have traditional white dress (for a whole slew of reasons which are too long for a comments section) but I say as long as you feel special and bridal and wonderful in it, go for it! Cause from this angle it is just lovely on you.
